Monday Morning
For nearly 4 years now I've gotten up at roughly the same time every morning.
For nearly 4 years I've made myself and my husband breakfast.
For nearly 4 years I've gotten ready and left my house at roughly the same time to arrive at the same place.
For nearly 4 years I've had a morning cup of coffee while sitting at my desk and checking emails.
For nearly 4 years I've scheduled my life around outage seasons.
For nearly 4 years I've been accessible by phone or email for work related emergencies.
For nearly 4 years my thoughts and energy have gone into recruiting and filling open positions.
For nearly 4 years I've learned as much as I can about craft positions, like boilermakers, welders, riggers, and pipefitters.
For nearly 4 years I've fought my greatest spiritual battles and learned what it means to work out your salvation through the way I receive a paycheck.
For nearly 4 years I've been a gatekeeper to my city.
For nearly 4 years I've worked for Zachry Industrial Inc.
Next Monday when I wake up, I will no longer have to go to the same office. My office will look more like my living room or spare room.
I will probably still get up and make myself and my husband breakfast.
When I get ready, I'll have no where specific to go and no specific time to get there.
My morning cup of coffee will probably be drank at my kitchen table with my daily Bible reading.
My life will now get scheduled around nap times and feeding schedules.
My phone will go from a vital business tool to a life line to the outside world.
My thoughts and energy will be focused on raising one little boy.
I'll trade in learning about craft positions for learning about breastfeeding, teething, sleep schedules and potty training.
I'm sure I'll still fight my greatest spiritual battles and learn what it means to work out my salvation, but now I will not receive a paycheck.
I will still be a gatekeeper for my city, but that will be secondary to being a gatekeeper for my family.
Starting Monday morning, I will be a stay at home mom.
